Right when you kissed her, you knew it was a mistake
You never should have let her in your life
She screamed bloody murder, but didn’t leave your bed
A desperate fantasy gone awry
And oh, how she fell for that line
Caught between words and wine
It never had worked so well
With your charm on parade
It’s the day that you saved
From certain self destruction
She opened her doe eyes
They whispered back your lies
To the conscience you left lying on the floor
Your conscience ignored her
Your body deplored her
To silence what her eyes were saying to you
And oh, how she fell for that line
Caught between words and wine
It never had worked so well
With your charm on parade
It’s the day that you saved
From certain self destruction
Compromised by all these lies again
Did you think it would last?
Place her hand in mine, lead her away
And save yourself the pain
Won’t you give up?
It’s not enough
To fulfill this emptiness
Her pulse then did quicken
Her body was stricken
As your conscience caught her in its open arms
She gasped that she’s leaving
As she admired the ceiling
Its patterns formed the shape of her demise…

He wakes to reveal her for what she can’t hide with lyrics tonight
No longer a temptress, a beauty, a queen – she’s plainly in sight
She’s merely a source of routine that comprised and idling life
Blinding him to the truth of her being with flashes of white
And oh, how she wants him to lead
A life of suppressed misery
While his dreams slowly die
So wrapped in daily routine
He’s far too busy to see
The waste of his life
Enveloped in silence he slips on his clothes and moves for the door
And over his shoulder he takes in the scene
He knows he must go
Then suddenly sound slices through the dark room, a break in repose
Her pupils adjust and she sees what he knows
She’s not in control
And oh, how she wants him to lead
A life of suppressed misery
While his dreams slowly die
So wrapped in daily routine
He’s far too busy to see
The waste of his life
Wave goodbye to her sweet alibi
She won’t give you a try
So leave her here
And oh, how she wants him to lead
A life of suppressed misery
While his dreams slowly die
So wrapped in daily routine
He’s far too busy to see
The waste of his life

And he said “Son, sometimes you’ve got to jump into the cold water
Sometimes you’ve got to leave the shore, and try your best to swim”
But Dad I don’t know anymore if this is my calling
Did I swim away from the shore just to find the pier?
Am I allowing the faith in myself to let my heart guide me?
Or is this the answer that I can’t seem to accept?
He said:
“Compromise no part of you
In this life unfair and untrue
With faith inside you will find comfort, ‘cause you’ll know
There are better ways to live, and there’s a better way to die”
So I packed up my bags and I headed into the great ocean
With my father’s words still ringing in my ears
And though at times my lungs have a wet and salty disposition
My heart it keeps me afloat, it knows drowning’s not my fate
And I must admit that I don’t know where I’m going
But there’s one thing of which I am sure – I can find my way home
So I’ll:
Compromise no part of me
In this life of misery
With faith inside I will find comfort, ‘cause I know
There are better ways to live, and there’s a better way to die
